2011-2012 Trap Project
Our
club's project to rebuild our dilapidated trap house began
in
2011. Over the years, the club's shotgun emphasis
had faded and
we neglected our facilities. After a vote to improve
the range to
enable trap shooting, we applied for and received a national grant
from the NRA, made possible because we're a NRA Gold Medal Club. The grant helped defray the cost of the project.
Members provided labor to clear trees and undergrowth that
had
encroached over the years. The club provided
materials for
renovating the existing trap house and bought and installed a new
solar-powered
self-loading trap.
The project is complete except for some landscaping to
improve access
to the trap house. This will be included in the annual
range cleanup
day when we open the range in April.
In addition to benefiting the club members with new
facilities, shooters from the Humboldt County 4-H shooting
sports shotgun program and the Humboldt High School trap
team will have improved opportunities for practice.
This will enhance our club's community presence and add
shotgun shooters to our membership roles.
